The city of Ponce in Puerto Rico is the second largest city after San juan, which is nicknamed 'the pearl of the south' and 'city of lions’. The population of Ponce is a little more than 200,000.

Ponce is also known as the majestic city, because of its classical colonial monuments and buildings, the total land mass of the city of Ponce is about 300 square kilometers in size. The total housing units in the city of Ponce is about 70,000 and it is still growing. The per capita income of residents of the city is about $9,000.

The city of Ponte is situated on the South Coastal region. The average temperature in Ponce is about 25-37 degree Celsius.

Ponce is one of the biggest trading regions of Puerto Rico; this is due to its large port entries. The playa de ponce port is one of the busiest ports in Puerto rico. The port has always been the biggest importation route for coffee, sugarcane, tobacco and rum as well as some other agricultural materials in Puerto rico.

There are lots of tourist attractions in Ponce. The beautiful 'plaza des la delicias' contains beautiful fountains and a magnificent cathedral and a century old wooden firehouse. Another tourist attraction monument in the city of Ponce is 'Parque de Bombas', which was built in 1882 and later became the Ponce fire service headquarters in 1989. Here a tourist will enjoy free concert every Sunday evening.

The oldest colonial monument in the city of Ponce is the 'Calcia acadia' which also serves as the city hall. This museum is the biggest avenue for tourist and locals who want to enjoy varieties of Indian, Spanish and African musical instruments from mornings in mid weekends till the weekends and the admissions are usually free of charge. The Ponce museum of art is another popular tourist attraction in the heart of the city. The museum houses the best art collections of the Caribbean. The Ponce museum of arts contains over 800 different paintings and sculptures. It also offers exhibits of the contemporary artists of puertorican origin. Admissions of tourists inside the museum are quite cheap. Not more than $5 for adults and less than that for children. The broad walk of 'La guancha Paseo Tablado' offers great local 'Poncenos', which is a colorful performance by local dance groups. Other tourist attraction avenues in the city of Ponce are; Caja de Muertos, which is also known as Coffin island, Castillos seralles which houses the most prominent rom producing families in Puerto rico and many more.

Getting to the city of Ponce is quite easy, ferry services are always around all days of the week from between 9am to 5pm in the evenings. The airports in the main cities including San juan have daily flights to the city of Ponce.
